How the Los Angeles Lakers won the franchise’s NBA-record-tying 17th title.

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most successful American professional basketball teams of all time and have won 17 NBA championships. Following the suspension of the 2019-20 NBA Season, the Lakers were one of the 22 teams invited to the NBA Bubble to participate in the final 8 games of the regular season. The Lakers finished the regular season with a 52–19 record, entering the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

The playoffs consist of a five game series against the best basketball teams in the league, and whoever wins the most games advances to the next round. The Lakers defeated the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round, the Houston Rockets in the semifinals, and the Denver Nuggets in the conference finals to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010. The finals were played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Bay Lake, Florida where the Los Angeles team would face and defeat the Miami Heat 4-2.

The Lakers clutched their record-tying 17th NBA championship on October 11, 2020. Lebron James took home his fourth league title and his fourth Finals MVP, becoming the first player to be chosen the top player in the championship series with three teams: the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat, and the Lakers. He extended his NBA record for Finals’ triple-doubles with 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. But he could not have done it without the support from Anthony Davis, who had 19 points and 15 rebounds in the deciding game, as well as veteran guards Rajon Rondo and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who held a combined 36 points.
