Students, parents, faculty and staff met during the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday to work together on service projects benefitting Kansas City area nonprofits.
More than 130 students and parents met in the dining hall to help with various service projects including making dog treats for Wayside Waifs, crafting blankets for the Neonatal Care Unit at Children’s Mercy and making cards for firefighters and residents at retirement homes in the Kansas City community.
In addition, 39 students in grades 8–12 participated in a service project at City Bitty Farm, a local farm owned by a Barstow family that cultivates organic produce.
Finally, sophomore Norah Culver and senior Alina Stribling put together a “Dress Give-Back Campaign,” to collect dresses for formal dances, and Barstow traditions such as Commencement and the Junior-Senior Ring Ceremony. Later this year, students who need a dress for an upcoming event will have the opportunity to “shop” the donations.
