Playing without their #'s 1 and 2 players, the Barstow boys tennis team stepped up impressively to grab the win against a strong Blue Springs South team. As always, the key was grabbing the advantage in doubles. At #2 double which would prove to be the linchpin, George Colombo and Aaram Salam used a solid net game a strong first serves to open with an 8-5 win. At #3 doubles, the freshman duo of Liam Groden and Shayan Ahmed did the same 8-1, again with solid first serve % and a good finishing net game.
The boys needed three singles matches to seal the deal.
During his first time playing in a crucial varsity match, freshman Shayan Ahmed was steady from the baseline and served well for an 8-4 win. Dylan Markey at #4 played a smart strategic match moving his opponent around the court to win 8-4. Playing at the #3 position for the first time didn't faze Liam Groden. Liam started strong with a good baseline game and forced the issue at the net for an 8-4 victory and collected the crucial 5th point for the team win.
