Girls Tennis Celebrates Victories

The girls tennis team followed a 7-0 win against Kansas City Christian on Sept. 6 with a strong performance — and a doubles championship — at the Barstow Tennis Invitational Wednesday, Sept. 11
The Knights won 7-0 against Kansas City Christian on Saturday, Sept. 7. Junior Sonya Shkuta won number one singles 8-1, with freshman Anya Stanojevic, junior Duha Azaz and sophomore Emilia Prier winning number two, three and four singles with scores of 8-0, 8-1 and 8-0 respectively. Sophomore Mira Gupta picked up her first varsity win with a 8-1 victory in number 5 singles.

The team hosted the Barstow Fall Invitational Tournament at the Plaza courts on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Sonya Shkuta and Anya Stanojevic won the A doubles championship with three solid victories against Raytown-Peculiar. Emilia Prier and Suha Azaz defeated a Grain Valley pair 8-5 in B doubles. Mira Gupta picked up her first varsity win with a 8-5 win over Marshall in A singles.

The team will compete in the St. Michael the Archangel tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14.
