Girls tennis capped a busy week with a 9-0 win over Maranatha on Thursday, Sept. 19.
Opening with doubles, senior Atra Biria and freshman Rose Biria handled the #1 spot with strong serves and solid ground strokes, 8-0. At #2 doubles, junior Sonya Shkuta and freshman Anya Stanojevic did the same. The pair served well and were active at the net to make easy work out of their match 8-0. At #3 doubles, Duha Azaz and Emilia Prier did the same with an 8-2 victory.
In singles, Rose Biria played a strong match from the baseline for a quick 8-0 win. Sonya Shkuta won her match 8-0, while Anya Stanojevic did the same.with a solid performance. Duha Azaz held her own with a 8-4 win and Emila Prier played her best match of the season with an 8-2 victory. Mira Gupta picked up her second varsity win of the year with an 8-2 win.
The team competed in the St. Michael’s doubles tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14. Sophomores Emilia Prier and Duha Azaz picked up third place medals with a win over Harrisonville. The team placed fourth. Playing at Liberty on Monday, Sept. 16, senior Atra Biria and freshman Rose Biria won 8-1 in doubles. Rose won 8-3 in singles.
Varsity plays Saturday at Harmon Park in the Pembroke Hill tournament with some of the strongest teams in the Kansas City area as well as some of the best in St. Louis, followed by matches on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
