Students and Faculty Build New Garden to Honor Alumna
Middle school students and faculty worked with Kansas City Community Gardens to build the Betsey G. Sutton Garden and Orchard on the Barstow campus last Friday, Nov. 15.
The group worked together to assemble raised beds and fill them with soil in preparation for future crops for years to come.
Gifted by Elizabeth “Betsey” G. Sutton ‘38 and her family, this beautiful space celebrates Betsey’s legacy of generosity, community and connection to nature. A sundial in Betsey’s honor will be placed in the heart of the garden, engraved with the playful reminder: “You can never have too many tomatoes.”
