The Barstow School welcomes acclaimed children's author Gita Varadarajan to campus on Friday, Jan. 17.
She will speak with lower school students and lead a writing workshop for fourth grade students in the morning, followed by a panel discussion with middle and upper school students in the afternoon. All Barstow families are invited to a a free dinner and a discussion of the author's work, including "Save Me a Seat" and "My Bindi," at 6 p.m. in the dining hall. Gita Varadarajan was born and raised in India. She became a teacher at the age of 23 and has been teaching for over 20 years. She moved to the U.S. with her two sons and husband in 2010. She earned her Master's in Literacy Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and began her writing career. She lives in Plainsboro, New Jersey and teaches fourth grade at Riverside Elementary in Princeton. She will be guiding students in discovering their unique voice as writers. Barstow’s South Asian Student Association is helping to host this author. Her visit is part of a speaker series made possible through a grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
