The Robotics team is preparing for competitions in March and April, bringing a specific emphasis on teamwork and inclusivity to 2025.
This season, the team is primarily focused on expanding membership and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and supported. New members will be paired with experienced student mentors for guidance for the opportunity to gain knowledge from past competitions and help apply it to this year’s game.
Along with building their robot, some team members are preparing the FIRST Impact Essay, which showcases the team’s ongoing philanthropy and outreach initiatives and will be presented to a panel of judges. Each new member will write a portion of the 10,000 character essay in an effort to learn about the team’s history.
The team is undergoing a rebrand this season, adopting the name “Kuhnights,” pronounced phonetically. Sophomore Emily Smith has worked with the team to refresh their logo, combining the well-known rabbit graphic with the Barstow shield.
The Robotics team meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-7 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at IDEA Space. Anyone in grades 8–12 is welcome to stop by and join; seventh grade students can join with a teacher recommendation.
