Families Celebrate Culture and Community

More than 500 guests shared the traditions, history, culture and cuisine of our diverse Barstow community at the Cultural Enrichment Festival on Sunday, Feb. 2.
For the third year in a row, Barstow families gathered for the Cultural Enrichment Festival. Families representing over 30 countries and cultures participated, along with six student organizations. Parent volunteers were instrumental in organizing and running the event.

The festival attracted an impressive turnout, with over 500 people attending. Each participating family and student group set up a booth in the gym representing their country or tradition, and visitors were invited to take a “world tour” where they visited each booth to sample food, admire art, play games and learn about each culture. In the dining hall, guests were invited to view student projects showcasing and celebrating students’ own family traditions.

The Cultural Enrichment Festival also included an African style dance performance from Esoke Cultural Arts Center, and music performances from Mariachi Estrella KC and Healthy Hip Hop. Healthy Hip Hop, a group that uses music to encourage healthy habits for students, also gave a performance in the auditorium on Friday, Jan. 31.
