Student Celebrate National French Week
Barstow fourth and fifth graders experienced un petit peu (a little bit) of France this week, thanks to upper school students and faculty who planned activities for National French Week.
French teacher Anne Hyvrard and library media specialist Beth Hafner collaborated on a lesson that combined culture, cuisine, landmarks and literature. Ms. Hafner showed students famous French monuments including the Louvre, the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, and discussed French foods. Then Mme Hyvrard's French students read Bonsoir Lune ("Goodnight Moon"), Les Trois Petits Cochons ("The Three Little Pigs")," and Dr. Seuss's Poisson Un, Poisson Duex, Poisson Rouge, Poisson Bleu ("One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish").
Other activities included hall decorations, French-themed menus and a screening of "Ratatouille"in the auditorium. National French Week is sponsored each year by the American Association of Teachers of French as a way to take French out of the classroom and to generate continued interest in learning the language.
