Barstow's new VEX robotics teams gained valuable experience at the 2024 Western Iowa VEX Robotics competition in Council Bluffs on Saturday, Jan. 20.
Upper school team 19390W, composed of seniors Jack Cuezze and Rian Jacobs and junior Loch Beagle, posted a 4-4 record. The team was selected by the first seed captain and became the top seed for finals. Team 19390W fell just short of winning and ended the event as tournament finalists.
Middle school VEX Team 19390Z composed of eighth graders Anya Stanojevic, Emily Mueller and Sonia Akkulugari faced staffing and machine challenges, but gained valuable experience for future competitions. The team finished as the #16 seed captain.
VEX competitions have a skills component as well, during which a single team works to score as many points as possible in one-minute matches for both driving and programming. Team 19390W finished second in skills at the tournament, and is currently the top-ranked skills team in Missouri.
