Junior Earns Congressional Award

Sanjana Akkulugari, junior, has earned the Congressional Award Gold Medal.
She dedicated 1,650 hours towards public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration.

Sanjana volunteered with AdventHealth Shawnee Mission and Harvesters, developing her communication skills and supporting food security in the Kansas City community. For personal development, she focused on her skills as a violist and pianist along with gaining professional experience with part time work at Summit MD LLC. She committed to improving as a tennis player as well as building strength through weightlifting.

For her expedition, Sanjana traveled to Colorado Springs to explore cultural landmarks and learn about the challenges of rural living.

The Congressional Award Gold Medal is the highest honor awarded by Congress to students and young adults ages 14–24. Five Barstow students have received this award in the past 12 months, fifty students have earned it in the past ten years.
