KNIGHTS ADVANCE TO DISTRICT FINALS

The Barstow boys tennis team took on a strong Lee's Summit North team at Barstow on Tuesday in the District 6, Class 3 semi-finals and came away with a convincing 5-0 win.  The Knights began the day with a doubles sweep against a school that knows it's doubles.  At #1 doubles, Sunny Gandhari and Saam Biria had a tough fight but managed to hold serve throughout and secure a mid-set break to win 8-6.  At #2 doubles Liam Groden and Sanjeev Adma continued their strong serves and relentless net play for an impressive 8-1 victory, and at #3 doubles Shayan Ahmed had his best doubles performance of the year, with consistent, well-targeted first serves and solid crosscourt returns.  Ahraar Azaz served well, too, as the boys came from behind for a 9-8 (11-9) win to set the stage for singles.  Needing only two singles wins now Sunny Gandhari made quick work at #2 with his steady, reliable baseline, game Sunny made quick work of his Bronco opponent, 6-1. 6-0.  Liam Groden clinched the 5th and final point in the match as he came from behind after a first-set loss to grab the second set 6-3 and force the tiebreaker.  Liam took charge early for a 3-6, 6-4 (10-5) win.  The Knights take on Rockhurst tomorrow at 4:00 at Minor Park.  It would be great to get some fans out there.  Congrats guys!
